Man’amko takes over CNMI
The elderly of Saipan were given the opportunity to take over positions of leadership in the CNMI as part of Mes Man’amko or Elderly Americans Month.
During the Man’amko Takeover Day last Monday, Cabinet positions like Department of Finance secretary, Department of Community Cultural Affairs secretary, and even the position of CNMI governor was filled by taken over by a select group of man’amko.
The switch did not only serve as means to celebrate Older American Month (or Mes Man’amko), it also served as a way for the CNMI elderly to get a glimpse of what it’s like to run the islands these days.
Gov. Ralph DLG Torres was excited to take his man’amko replacement for the day, Emmanuel Mikael, to all the meetings and events he had to attend last Monday.
According to Mikael, he enjoyed his time and learned that it takes a lot to govern the CNMI.
When asked if he would like to participate in the Man’amko Takeover Day again, Mikael said he would prefer another administrative position.
Mikael had the opportunity to take part in the ribbon-cutting of the new bus shelter built by Pacific Islands Club Saipan.
