Man’amko takes over government agencies
In celebration of Older American Month, senior citizens were given the chance to take over government offices for a day.
Government offices like the Saipan Mayor’s Office and the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council were taken over by the man’amko yesterday.
At the mayor’s office, Eden Liwag took the place of Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang and Nicholas Muna took over from SNIMC chair Luis Castro. Liwag was given the privilege to perform all the marriage ceremonies for the day.
According to Apatang, Liwag was also to be taken out to the field so that she could oversee the field operators and the work that they do to beautify the community.
Liwag was taken around the villages of Chalan Kanoa, Papago, and Tanapag in order to witness first hand what the mayor’s office does daily for the community.
According to Apatang, it is always a good thing to have the elderly see how the government functions in the Commonwealth and to see how the CNMI is led by its leaders.
At the municipal council, Muna was taken to government events and was introduced to government officials as acting chairman. Castro was open to sharing thoughts and opinions with Muna in regards to changes and enhancements in the council.
It was the council’s first year to have a man’amko take over the council. (Kimberly A. Bautista)
