Man who stole birds, hydro jack gets 2-year prison sentence
A man who pleaded guilty to stealing pigeons, a bird cage, and a hydraulic jack was sentenced to a two-year term in prison.
Ronald Jr. Leon Guerrero Ealey, 28, pleaded guilty last week before Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph Camacho to two counts of theft in two different cases: one involving the theft of pigeons and a bird cage, and one involving a hydraulic jack from a tire shop in Kagman.
Camacho sentenced Ealey to one-year imprisonment for the case involving the stolen birds, with 351 days suspended. Ealey was ordered to serve the remaining 14 days of his sentence day-by-day with no possibility of parole or early release.
In the case involving the stolen jack, Camacho sentenced Ealey to a term of one year, with 686 days suspended. That means he will be imprisoned for 30 days.
Ealey was remanded back to the custody of the Department of Corrections to serve his sentence, which would run concurrently with one another. He is scheduled to be released on Dec. 9 and will be placed on supervised probation for two years.
Ealey was also ordered to serve community service, pay a $100 fine, $25 court fee, $120 probation fee yearly, and $70 restitution.
When the court gave Ealey the chance to speak, not under oath, about the incident, he said he went to the home of the victim who owned the pigeons with the intent to sell him chickens. However, he instead saw the bird cage with two pigeons and eggs inside and decided to take them.
In the case of the stolen hydro jack, Ealey said he went to the tire shop in Kagman to service his tires. He saw the hydro jack just lying around and when no one was looking, he loaded the item in the back of his car and left.
A few days after stealing the jack, Ealey said he went back to the tire shop to return the stolen item, but Criminal Investigation Bureau officers were already there with the warrant for his arrest.
Ealey noted that he was contacted by CIB officers informing him that he was wanted for theft before returning the jack to the tire shop.
