Man threatens to kill trader
Habitual offender Nestor Camacho Taitano was sentenced to one year in prison for threatening to kill a female storeowner with a machete and violating the conditions of his probation in a previous criminal conviction.
In a written issued Thursday, Superior Court Associate Judge Teresa Kim-Tenorio sentenced the 41-year-old Taitano to six months imprisonment for disturbing the peace and six months in prison for violating the terms and conditions of his probation, with credit for 79 days of time served.
Taitano pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace in the 2016 case and admitted to violating the terms and conditions of his probation in the 2015 case as part of a plea deal.
According to the plea agreement, on July 23, 2016 on Saipan, Taitano approached the storeowner in a threatening manner while verbally threatening her. Frightened, the victim contacted the police.
In the 2015 case, Taitano pleaded guilty in January 2015 to criminal mischief and disturbing the peace. He has a remaining six months suspended sentence. He was placed on probation for one year.
Assistant public defender Michael Sato appeared as counsel for Taitano at the change of plea/sentencing hearing held on Tuesday. Assistant attorney general Chester Hinds appeared for the government.
