A man has filed a civil suit against a local gaming establishment after he slipped and fell, claiming it was the establishment’s negligence that led to his fall.

Daniel A. Mensah is suing Dongfang Trading Corp., which does business as Happy Poker II, after he slipped and fell inside what he claims was a wet and slippery restroom.

Mensah, through attorney Matthew Holley, is asking the Superior Court to grant him relief in the amount of $300,000 for pain and suffering, emotional distress, mental anguish and diminished quality of life.

The plaintiff is also requesting the CNMI Superior Court for a mandatory mediation, and if that is unsuccessful, he wants the court to issue a judgment for compensatory damages, economic and non-economic, for medical care and expenses, and bodily injury in an amount to be proven at trial.

According to court documents, back on Dec. 10, 2021, the plaintiff slipped and fell after he walked into Happy Poker II’s restroom, which he claims was wet, causing a slippery floor.

The plaintiff said he sustained injuries due to the fall. Specifically, the plaintiff said he suffered serious personal injuries that required hospitalization under the care of professional medical staff.

Mensah further alleged in his lawsuit that there were no signs or adequate signs to warn the establishment’s customers, invitees, licensees or guests of the danger on the premises.
