Man strangles, punches girlfriend inside store

A 24-year-old man allegedly strangled, punched, and slammed his girlfriend during an argument inside the Island Shave Ice Store in Garapan on Friday night.

Eleuterio Apolonio Romolor Teregeyo was arrested for assault and battery and disturbing the peace. His bail was set at $10,000 cash; preliminary hearing is on Oct. 20 at 9am.

Assistant public defender Cindy Nesbit was appointed as counsel for the defendant. Acting chief prosecutor Barbara Cepeda appeared for the government.

Police detective John Anthony Hofschneider stated in his report that Teregeyo and his girlfriend got into an argument. As the victim tried to leave the Shave Ice Store, Teregeyo allegedly started assaulting her.

A group of juveniles witnessed the incident and called 911.

One witness took a video of the assault using a cellphone.
