Man robbed at knifepoint in broad daylight
A man was robbed at knifepoint in broad daylight yesterday across the Commonwealth Casino Commission office on Middle Road.
At around 10:40am yesterday, the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services and the Department of Public Safety were seen responding to an incident across the CCC office located at Springs Plaza.
According to the victim, a Korean male, he was robbed at knifepoint following a meeting he attended at CCC.
The victim sustained a gash to the arm as a result of the robbery.
The victim requested that his name be kept confidential.
DPS Commissioner Robert Guerrero said that he could not disclose who the suspect was or if he was apprehended or not due to ongoing investigation.
The victim described the suspect as a local male wearing a black hooded top and had a heavy Carolinian accent.
At the scene, Saipan Tribune observed that police officers were in the process of interviewing the victim and obtaining CCTV footage from neighboring establishments.
The process took over an hour and at around 11:45am press time, CCTV footage was not obtained yet.
The victim told Saipan Tribune that he had just finished attending a meeting at the CCC office and was mugged before he entered his vehicle.
Prior to the meeting, the victim said he had withdrawn money from the Bank of Hawaii Middle Road branch that is located in the same building as the CCC office.
The victim said that before he entered his vehicle, the suspect stopped him with a tap on his shoulder and told him to give up his bag that contained the money.
The victim said he refused to give in to the suspect’s demand and that’s when he pulled out a knife and swung at him.
The victim said he was able to dodge the first swing but the suspect was able to slash his left arm.
The victim said the injury led him to let go of the bag and the suspect took the money out of his bag, dropped the bag, and ran toward the direction of Quarter Master Road.
The victim did not disclose how much was withdrawn, but according to individuals who witnessed the incident, a large amount seemed to have been taken.
