A man was reportedly killed after being hit by a car last Wednesday evening in San Roque, but the Department of Public Safety remains mum on the incident.

Saipan Tribune learned from reliable sources that first responders responded to a call regarding an auto pedestrian crash in San Roque across Kensington Hotel Saipan at around 9:40pm last Wednesday, Oct. 19.

The victim, who is believed to have been Melvin T. Sakisat, was reportedly hit by what is believed to be a pickup truck on his way to work on the evening of Oct. 19. Sources claim the incident was a hit-and-run but DPS has yet to confirm any details of the fatal incident.

It was learned that the victim was transported to the Commonwealth Health Center at around 10pm but succumbed to his injuries at around 12am. Sakisat was officially pronounced dead at around 12:53am.

Saipan Tribune tried to obtain more information from DPS but it has yet to issue a statement as of 6pm press time. It was learned that the incident is still under investigation.

Since the accident, family members of Sakisat started a GoFundMe account to help raise funds for the victim’s funeral. For those interested in donating, you may visit the GoFundMe account at https://www.gofundme.com/yedaa-funeral-expenses.

According to family members of the deceased, Sakisat is survived by his daughter, Lina, and siblings: Molly, Eda, Jerome, Julian, and Peter.

Sakisat, a cancer survivor who fought the good fight for six years, is an advocate of the Commonwealth Cancer Association.

“With his determination and commitment to share his experience and spread awareness, he became an advocate in the Commonwealth Cancer Association as a spokesperson, touching the community’s hearts and encouraging patients battling cancer to keep fighting. Our beloved late Melvin T. Sakisat’s memory will live on and forever remain in the hearts he touched,” said the family in its GoFundMe statement.

“Melvin [was] a generous person and a loving father to Lina Sakisat. He brought many joys around him and touched many hearts through his kindness and cheerful personality. A remarkable man, a father, a friend, and most significantly, a brother,” the family added.
