Man injured in As Lito stabbing
A 30-year-old man was injured when a man he gave a ride to in Chalan Laulau later attacked him with a sharp object or a knife in As Lito last Monday night.
The victim, a Chinese national, was brought by the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services ambulance to the Commonwealth Healthcare Center for treatment.
Acting Department of Public Safety spokesman Lt. Jason Tarkong said the suspect was described as local male, with long hair and wearing a black hat.
Tarkong said the actual stabbing happened in the parking lot of Hollywood Video in As Lito.
Tarkong said police learned that the victim picked up the suspect in front of the Saipan Mayor’s Office on Beach Road, Chalan Laulau. The suspect told the victim to drop him off in San Antonio. On their way, the suspect redirected the victim to instead drop him off at Hollywood Video in As Lito.
As the victim was parking the car in front of Hollywood Video, the suspect attacked him with a sharp object, possibly a knife. The victim fought off the suspect, who got off the car and ran behind the Hollywood Video building.
The victim managed to drive his car to the Green Consume Market in As Lito, where police were then called.
Tarkong said DPS and the Crime Stoppers Program need the public’s help for information about the suspect.
As of press time last night, Tarkong had yet to reply to Saipan Tribune’s inquiry if the victim is a taxi driver.
