Superior Court Associate Judge David A. Wiseman has imposed a 72-hour prison term on a man accused of choking and throwing a plastic chair at his ex-wife.
Kwi Dong Woo, 54, pleaded guilty to two counts of disturbing the peace as part of a plea deal.
Wiseman sentenced Woo on Wednesday to six months in prison, all suspended except for 72 hours, with credit for the seven days he has already served in jail.
Woo will be on probation for a year and required to pay a $500 fine, $25 in court assessment fee plus a probation fee. He is barred from drinking alcoholic beverages while on probation.
According to the plea agreement, Woo became angry with his ex-wife on April 12, 2012, on Saipan, and started yelling, cursing, and throwing things, including a stuffed animal and a chair that missed the victim but broke a window.
Woo’s actions scared his ex-wife and a neighbor.
A police detective stated in her report that Woo and the victim had an argument at her residence in Garapan. Woo allegedly choked the victim and threw a plastic chair at her.
The victim took their two children and ran to call the police.
