Man in child porn case hires forensic expert

Vincent Masga Songsong, a man arrested by federal agents for allegedly having in his possession a laptop that contained child pornographic materials, has retained a forensic expert to evaluate the computer evidence.

Attorney Colin Thompson, the court-appointed counsel for Songsong, informed the U.S. District Court for the NMI during a status conference on Tuesday about the hiring of the forensic expert for their defense.

Thompson said it would take two to three weeks for their forensic expert to complete evaluating the laptop.

Assistant U.S. attorney Ross Naughton, counsel for the U.S. government, agreed to have another status conference in the case in late April.

U.S. District Court Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona set the matter for another status conference on April 22, 2015, at 9am.

After the hearing, Manglona remanded Songsong into the custody of the U.S. Marshal.

Last January, the court ordered Songsong’s detention pending trial.

Jury trial will be on May 26, 2015.

Songsong pleaded not guilty to an indictment charging him with one count of child pornography.

According to the indictment, from Feb. 17, 2014, until Feb. 25, 2014, Songsong knowingly possessed a laptop computer containing visual depiction of a child less than 12 years old engaging in sex.
