A man is now in serious condition after a pickup truck being driven by an alleged intoxicated man hit him as he was crossing Isa Drive in San Vicente on Saturday night.

Manuel Quitano Camacho, 49, sustained several fractured ribs and blood clots in the lungs and brain, police said yesterday.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Travis Hurst said the driver, Rainaldo Santos Agulto, 51, was arrested for driving under the influence.

Hurst said that, on Saturday at 8pm, DPS Dispatch was notified about an automobile crash that occurred along Isa Drive in front of the Mobil gas station/Ace Hardware building in San Vicente.

Hurst said investigation showed that Camacho was crossing the street when a blue 1987 Toyota Hilux 4X2 pickup traveling north on the inner lane struck him.

Hurst said Camacho did not use the designated crosswalk and was crossing in an area with very poor lighting.

Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived at the scene and brought Camacho to the Commonwealth Health Center for treatment.

Traffic officers detected the odor of alcohol on the driver, Agulto, and did a DUI investigation on him.

Agulto was then arrested after he allegedly registered a blood alcohol concentration of .167 percent. The BAC legal limit in the CNMI is .08 percent.
