A former employee of the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs accused of destroying items owned by his girlfriend and resisting arrest has pleaded guilty and was slapped with a 90-day prison term.

George Repeki, 59, pleaded guilty Tuesday last week to assault (domestic violence), criminal mischief (domestic violence), and resisting arrest as part of a plea deal.

Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho sentenced Repeki to one-year imprisonment, all suspended except for 90 days, with credit for 51 days of time served.

He will then be placed on supervised probation for two years.

Repeki was ordered to pay a $100 fine, $25 in court costs plus probation fee. He was required to surrender his firearm and firearm identification card to the Department of Public Safety, complete anger management counseling and alcohol counseling, and perform 200 hours of community service, among other conditions.

Camacho noted that Repeki has a prior conviction for assault and battery in a 1991 case.

The Office of the Attorney General originally charged him with assault with a dangerous weapon (domestic violence), assault (domestic violence), criminal mischief (domestic violence), disturbing the peace, assault and battery, and resisting arrest. That carries a total maximum sentence of 14 years in prison.

The charges were later amended to assault (domestic violence), criminal mischief (domestic violence), and resisting arrest, which carry a total maximum prison sentence of two years and six months.

Assistant public defender Shoshanah Epstein represents Repeki.

The case stems from an incident on June 18, 2017, when Repeki destroyed appliances and other belongings at his girlfriend’s house in Tanapag. The damaged property included a washing machine, air-conditioner, refrigerator, and furniture.

When a police officer attempted to arrest him, Repeki resisted. According to a police report, the officer had to mace Repeki.

The girlfriend told police that Repeki had been drinking since 7pm that Father’s Day and told her to buy more drinks but she refused.

Repeki then allegedly took a machete and threatened to kill her. She was frightened so she drove away. He then started breaking her appliances and belongings in the house.
