Superior Court presiding judge Robert C. Naraja handed down yesterday an eight-year prison sentence against a 42-year-old man who sexually abused a female minor in 2001 on Saipan.

Naraja sentenced Nena S. Langu to 30 years in prison, all suspended except for eight years and without the possibility of parole, with credit for the time he had already served since his arrest on April 4, 2011. Langu will be released on April 3, 2019, and placed on probation for 10 years. He was also required to pay a $2,500 fine, mandatory court costs of $100, and $1,000 probation fees. Langu will also pay for the victim’s medical or psychological treatment.

Langu was required to register as a sex offender and submit to an examination focusing on anger management and alcohol/substance abuse at the Community Guidance Center.

The Office of the Attorney General had charged Langu with two counts of sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree. In another case, the OAG charged him with criminal mischief and disturbing the peace.

Langu pleaded guilty to a count of sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree as part of a plea deal. The remaining charges were dropped.

Langu was represented by assistant public defender Douglas Hartig.

Assistant attorney general Eileen Wisor, who appeared for the government, said that Langu engaged in sexual penetration with the minor sometime in 2001.
