Man gets $50K bail for meth possession
The Superior Court has imposed a $50,000 cash bail on a man accused of possessing and selling methamphetamine or “ice” on Tinian.
Nick Anthony Empleo Ayuyu was brought before Superior Court associate judge Joseph Camacho last week for his initial appearance and bail hearing. At the hearing, the judge imposed a $50,000 cash bail on Ayuyu for allegedly selling $50 worth of crystal meth to a Department of Public Safety confidential defendant on Tinian.
Ayuyu, 31, was arrested on charges of trafficking and possession of a controlled substance pursuant to a buy-walk operation in September.
During the hearing, Ayuyu was represented by assistant public defender Vina Seelam while assistant attorney general Frances Demapan appeared for the government.
Ayuyu was remanded back to Department of Corrections custody after failing to post bail. Camacho ordered Ayuyu to return to court on Oct. 19 at 10am for his preliminary hearing while his arraignment was set for Oct. 24 at 9am.
According to court documents, the Tinian Criminal Investigation Bureau was conducting a drug investigation on another individual when Ayuyu’s involvement in drug trafficking was discovered back in August. The bureau managed to obtain the service of a confidential defendant who agreed to meet with Ayuyu to purchase “ice” worth $50.
Last Aug. 30, the confidential defendant tried to buy “ice” or methamphetamine from Anthony Cruz, an alleged drug dealer from whom the informant had purchased drugs in the past. Cruz then allegedly directed the defendant to Ayuyu, who allegedly sold him the drug at his residence in Housing Turnkey. Officers later tested the “ice” acquired from the CD at the Criminal Investigative Bureau office using a Presumptive Drug Test kit. Results of the test came out presumptively positive for methamphetamine.
