Man gets 30 days in prison for pointing airsoft gun at ex-wife
A man accused of punching his former wife and pointing an unloaded airsoft gun at her head has pleaded guilty and was slapped with a 30-day prison term.
At a change of plea hearing on Tuesday afternoon, Wei Zhang, 37, pleaded guilty to assault as part of a plea deal with the government.
Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo sentenced Zhang to six months in prison, all suspended except for 30 days, with credit for time served. He was allowed to start serving his remaining prison term at the Department of Corrections on Dec. 21, 2015, at 8am.
After completing the prison term, Zhang will be placed on probation for one year. He was ordered to report to the Community Guidance Center for anger management counseling.
Zhang was required to submit to an evaluation focusing on alcohol and drug assessment and treatment.
During his probation, Zhang is prohibited from possessing or consuming alcohol or controlled substances.
The Office of the Attorney General charged Zhang with assault and battery, assault, and disturbing the peace. He pleaded guilty to assault. In return, the government moved to dismiss the remaining charges. The court granted the motion.
According to the factual basis of the plea deal, on April 17, 2015, on Saipan, Zhang pointed an unloaded airsoft gun at the victim’s head.
Police said officers responded to AJ’s Fashion in Garapan after they received a domestic violence report. The storeowner met the officers and claimed that Zhang went inside the store and punched her in the head repeatedly. The defendant then pointed an airsoft gun at her head.
The victim said her former husband has been trying to control her life by bothering her at her store.
