Man gets 2 years in prison for beating up girlfriend
A habitual offender was slapped with a two-year prison sentence last week for beating up his girlfriend in 2016 and 2017, and for violating his probation.
Sanderson Ilo Sebuu, 33, pleaded guilty to assault and battery in the 2016 and 2017 cases. He also admitted to violating the terms and conditions of his probation in a 2013 criminal case.
Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo sentenced Sebuu to two years in prison, without the possibility of parole. He was given credit for 148 days of time served.
After completing his prison term, Sebuu will be placed on three years of probation. He was required to pay a $200 fine, plus $25 in court costs and $420 in probation fees.
He was also ordered to report to Community Guidance Center for counseling.
Sebuu is barred from drinking alcohol or using controlled substances during his probation.
Sebuu repeatedly slapped, punched, and kicked the victim on Sept. 17, 2016. He also punched, kicked, and pulled the victim’s hair on June 21, 2017.
In January 2014, the defendant pleaded guilty to assault and battery and disturbing the peace. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison, all suspended except for 30 days. He was placed on three years of probation in that case.
When he committed the two offenses in 2016 and 2017, he was still on probation.
Assistant attorney general Chester Hinds represented the government. Chief Public Defender Douglas Hartig served as counsel for Sebuu.
