Man fined $25 for littering
A man on Saipan has been fined $25 after being caught illegally dumping trash in Koblerville.
A litter control apprehending officer from the Saipan Mayor’s Office cited a person last July 26, 2019, for littering on government property in Koblerville during field operation.
While the litter control officer was going around Koblerville, he saw the individual offloading debris from his vehicle. Initial investigation of the debris included construction and demolition waste including lumber materials.
As a result of the illegal activity, the individual was issued a fine of $25. The violation was determined to be base simple violation; it was the violators’ first violation and the violation was not committed within any sensitive areas. The litter control officer instructed the violator to immediately remove the debris from the site and dispose of it properly at the Marpi landfill.
The Office of the Saipan Mayor is one of the government agencies mandated to enforce the Litter Control Law. The other enforcing agencies are the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality, Department of Lands and Natural Resources, Department of Public Health, Department of Public Works, Commonwealth Zoning Office, the Department of Public Lands, and the Department of Public Safety.
