Man who beat up juvenile gets a suspended sentence
A 23-year-old man accused of beating up the daughter of Department of Corrections Commissioner Ramon C. Mafnas has pleaded guilty in Superior Court and was slapped with a suspended sentence.
James Anthony P. Webb signed a plea agreement with the government last week and pleaded guilty to the offense of assault and battery (domestic violence).
Associate Judge David A. Wiseman sentenced Webb to a year in prison, all suspended. He was given credit for 15 days of time served. This means Webb will no longer serve a prison term. He, however, was placed on probation for one year, minus 15 days of time served.
During the duration of his probation, Webb is prohibited from having any contact with the victim and the latter’s parents.
Webb is also required to submit to random drug testing and pay restitution to the victim and her parents for property damage and medical bill. He was required to pay a $25 assessment fee plus a probation fee.
Assistant public defender Michael Sato served as counsel for Webb.
According to the plea deal, Webb struck, beat, and wounded the victim and damaged the house’s door and toolbox belonging to the victim’s parents on Feb. 25, 2014, on Saipan.
As part of the plea deal, assistant attorney general James McAllister dropped the remaining charges of disturbing the peace, criminal trespass, and criminal mischief.
Police said the beating happened at Mafnas’ house in San Roque last Feb. 25.
