Man arrested for alleged multiple thefts at rental store

The boyfriend of a Dial Rent-to-Own employee was arrested at his home in Dandan last Monday after video surveillance footage allegedly showed him stealing several items from the store over a span of many days.

Syl Kolin Teregeyo, 35, was arrested on Monday, Feb. 3, 2020, at about 2:44pm, on the strength of an arrest warrant for the charges of theft on multiple incidents.

According to the police statement yesterday, the CNMI Department of Public Safety received a call from the Dial Rent-to-Own store in Chalan Kanoa last Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, at about 8:17am, reporting a theft incident. Police were dispatched to the scene.

According to the caller, who is employed by the store, they noticed some items missing earlier in the week and wanted to report it. On Jan. 6, 2020, employees noticed they were missing a drill set. After reviewing the store’s surveillance footage, a man was seen behind the counter place the drill set into his bag before walking out of the store. Management continued to review surveillance footage back until Dec. 9, 2019, and discovered the same person putting items into his bag and walking out of the store. On some days the suspect would return to the store twice to take items. After an inventory of the store, total items missing were valued at $2,600.

The individual was identified as a boyfriend of an employee. The female individual was interviewed and she positively identified Teregeyo as the individual on the surveillance footage.

On Jan. 31, 2020, at about 2:56pm, Superior Court Associate Judge Teresa Kim-Tenorio signed and issued the arrest warrant for Teregeyo’s arrest. (PR)
