Man arrested for alleged disturbance, burglary try
On Thursday, June 11, 2020, at about 1:26am, the CNMI Department of Public Safety received a 911 call reporting an attempted burglary in Chalan Kanoa.
Police who were dispatched to the scene met with the caller who stated that a male individual had tried to enter the victim’s home before realizing that the victim was home and awake. The victim told officers that the suspect fled on foot and was described as heavyset, short, with short hair, shirtless, wearing gray shorts, and barefoot.
The officer notified dispatch as another officer went to a neighboring house where the officers came upon Jody Kaipat eating near the doorway, matching the description that the victim gave earlier. Officers told Kaipat that they wanted to ask him a few questions outside the house. As officers were interviewing Kaipat, the victim positively identified Kaipat as the suspect who was trying to gain access into the home. Kaipat was detained as officers were interviewing the victim.
The victim stated that he was in his home when he noticed an individual trying to gain access into the vehicles outside by checking if the doors were left unlocked. Shortly after, Kaipat walked toward the victim’s front door and tried to open it when the victim asked the suspect, “What’s happening here?” Kaipat then fled on foot before the police arrived.
At about 1:44am, Kaipat was placed under arrest for disturbing the peace and attempted burglary. He was cleared at the Kanoa Resort COVID-19 quarantine site before being transported to the Department of Corrections where he was booked and detained. (PR)
