Police arrested a man who allegedly burglarized a car rented by a group of tourists and attempted to steal their belongings at the Coral Ocean Point beach side in As Gonno Friday afternoon.

William T. Deleon Guerrero, 29, was taken to the Superior Court yesterday for a bail hearing on charges of burglary and attempted theft. His bail was set at $25,000 cash.

Police detective Alexander Sakisat stated in his report that he responded to the crime scene after receiving a call about a robbery in progress.

Sakisat said he met a Japanese male tourist and three of his friends standing by a rented Toyota Yaris.

An employee told the detective that he was on the golf course when he noticed the suspect talking to the tourist by the Toyota Yaris. The employee stated that he saw the tourist trying to pull the man out of a white vehicle, but the driver drove off.

The employee chased the vehicle with a golf cart and wrote down the car’s license plate number.

Sakisat learned that prior to the incident, the tourist and his friends were sightseeing at the COP beach side. The tourist saw a white vehicle park by their rented car. The tourist then saw the man lean into their vehicle by the front passenger side and appeared to be looking for things to steal.

The tourist walked back to their car, but the man told him that he did not do anything. The suspect then drove away.

A few minutes later, police detective John Cabrera spotted the suspect’s vehicle by the Saipan International School in As Lito.

Sakisat brought the tourist to Cabrera’s location. The tourist identified the operator of the vehicle (Deleon Guerrero) as the person who went through their vehicle.

The tourist confirmed that most of their valuables were locked in the truck and that none of their belongings were taken.
