An intoxicated 63-year-old man allegedly choked his wife during an argument over leftover rice at their home in Kagman III last Friday night.

Francisco F. Mettao was arrested for assault and battery, false arrest, and disturbing the peace.

At his initial appearance hearing on Tuesday, Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo granted assistant attorney general Frances Demapan’s motion to release Mettao from custody.

Govendo prohibited him from drinking any alcoholic beverages and ordered him not to have any contact with his wife.

Preliminary hearing will be on March 19 at 1:30pm.

According to police, two officers responded to a call about a domestic violence incident at a home in Kagman III Friday night and met the victim, who had bruising on her arms, back, chest, and neck.

The victim told police that her husband stopped her from leaving their home after an argument, then choked her in their bedroom.

She stated that when Mettao had just arrived after a night of drinking and wanted to eat, but got upset upon finding out that there was no more leftover rice.

As the victim attempted to leave to avoid an argument, Mettao allegedly grabbed her by the head and pulled her back. She then tried to run to the bedroom but Mettao allegedly pushed her onto the bed and tried to strangle her.

The victim then called the police for assistance after he got off from her.

Police officers arrived and arrested Mettao.

In an interview with Mettao at the Department of Corrections last Saturday, the suspect allegedly admitted that his right forearm was on his wife’s neck and that he pinned her down as he was trying to take the car keys away from her so she would not leave.
