Man allegedly threatened to shoot wife, police
Police arrested a 43-year-old man for allegedly breaking things inside their house and threatening to shoot his wife and police with a shotgun if they enter their residence in Dandan last Friday, Christmas night.
The wife called the police when her husband, Joaquin Babauta Camacho, refused to open the house’s door.
At 12:18am on Saturday, members of the Department of Public Safety’s Special Enforcement Action Section entered the house and arrested Camacho without incident, according to DPS acting spokesman Jason Tarkong yesterday.
Camacho was taken to Superior Court yesterday for his initial appearance on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace. His bail was set at $15,000 cash. Preliminary hearing will be on Jan. 5 at 1:30pm.
Assistant public defender Michael Sato was appointed as counsel for Camacho.
Police detective Vincent A. Igisaiar said preliminary investigation showed that Camacho’s wife called DPS on Friday at 9pm and reported that Camacho has a .410 caliber shotgun and had threatened to kill her or anybody who tries to enter their house, located along Sirena Avenue in Dandan Homestead.
Igisaiar said a police officer arrived at the location at 9:09pm and met with the wife. After a few minutes, more police officers arrived at the scene.
Police set up a perimeter outside the house and attempted several times to communicate with Camacho, to no avail. SEAS officers later barged inside the house and arrested Camacho, who was said to be asleep.
According to the wife, Camacho became mad on Friday upon learning that she had dropped off their son at her family’s house, where the child wanted to spend Christmas and sleep over.
As the couple was on their way home after attending an evening novena in Finasisu, Camacho started punching the steering wheel of their car, pulling the wheel to the left and right, causing the vehicle to swerve and nearly got into accident near Matty’s Barbecue in As Lito.
The wife was so terrified that when they got to their house in Dandan, she did not immediately get down from the car.
Camacho went inside the house and started throwing things around. She later got down, went into the house to use the restroom, and told him she was going to pick up their son.
Camacho, however, shouted at her and accused her of having an affair. As she got to the car, Camacho took their other 1-month-old baby from the car seat and told her to leave. He walked back inside the house.
The wife said Camacho, who was holding his .410 shotgun, shouted at her that if she tries to come into the house he would shoot her or anybody, including the police.
When she tried to open the door, she found it locked. She asked him to open the door but he did not reply. That’s when she decided to call the police.
The wife also disclosed to police that a night after Typhoon Soudelor, Camacho, who was intoxicated, shot a round of his gun into the air when there were children running around on the street near their house. Before that incident, she said, their house was burglarized and their bush cutter was stolen.
