Man allegedly strangled, slapped girlfriend
A man was arrested for allegedly strangling and repeatedly slapping his girlfriend at their house in Dandan on Thursday night.
Deogracias Gordon Dungca, 56, was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon, attempted robbery, assault and battery, assault, and disturbing the peace.
The victim had a 4-inch bruise on the left leg, a 2-inch ligature mark on her throat, and a swollen face, police said.
Bail for Dungca was set at $10,000 cash; preliminary hearing is on Aug. 21 at 9am.
Assistant public defender Jamal Saleh will represent Dungca.
Assistant attorney general Heather Barcinas appeared for the government on Friday afternoon.
Police said that Dungca poured water on the face of his girlfriend, hit her with a water scoop on the left leg twice, strangled her, and repeatedly slapped her face.
The woman said she was crying for help, but Dungca told her God would not help her and that he was going to kill her.
She bit Dungca on the right arm and managed to run away. She later went back to the house to get her shirt and purse so she could leave but ran outside again and sought the help of a neighbor.
Police responded and arrested the suspect.
