Man allegedly stole ex-girlfriend’s laptop
A 23-year-old man was arrested yesterday morning in As Lito for allegedly stealing a laptop belonging to his former girlfriend and pawning it at a shop.
Atanacio Gonzaga Taitingfong was taken to the Superior Court yesterday for a bail hearing on the charge of theft. His bail was set at $10,000 cash; preliminary hearing is on Oct. 13 at 9am.
Assistant public defender Cindy Nesbit was appointed as counsel for Taitingfong. Assistant attorney general Heather Barcinas appeared for the government.
Police detective Daniel T. Joab stated in his report that the victim went to the Department of Public Safety last Sept. 14 to complain against Taitingfong.
Joab said that during his interview last Sept. 27, the victim stated that when she arrived home in Kagman III from school last June 10 she noticed that her laptop was missing.
That same day, the victim’s siblings told her that earlier that day, Taitingfong picked them up from school and they headed straight to a pawnshop in San Vicente. Taitingfong got down from the car and entered the shop.
The victim said she confronted Taitingfong about the laptop and he promised he would soon return it to her.
The victim said Taitingfong informed her mother that he pawned the laptop for $140. The victim bought the black ASUS laptop for $700.
Last Sept. 28, police recovered from the shop the laptop and the invoice that indicated Taitingfong’s name.
