A man allegedly raped his former girlfriend as she was packing her belongings to leave their shared residence last Saturday afternoon.

Wen Long Zhao, 38, was arrested last Sunday for sexual assault in the first degree and disturbing the peace.

Police officers who went to the house reportedly saw the victim appearing frightened and had been crying. She was brought to the hospital for examination and the physician who saw her concluded that the test was positive for penetration, police said.

At a hearing on Tuesday, Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo imposed a $50,000 cash bail on Zhao and set the preliminary hearing for Dec. 12 at 1:30pm.

Assistant public defender Cindy Nesbit was appointed as Zhao’s counsel. Assistant attorney general Chester Hinds appeared for the government.

The Department of Public Safety received a 911 call about a sexual offense last Saturday at 8:48pm. Police investigated and arrested Zhao the following day.

The victim told police that she had ended her relationship with Zhao last Nov. 30, but he raped her last Saturday afternoon. She said she told Zhao on Saturday morning that she would be moving out of their shared residence, but he avoided the conversation and left for work. At 3:30pm that same day, Zhao returned home.

After eating, the victim walked to her room to continue packing her belongings. Zhao allegedly came from behind and raped her. She struggled, scratched his face, and kicked him. Zhao allegedly became angrier. After allegedly raping her, he told her she does not need to move as the house has two bedrooms.

The victim later contacted a friend to help find her a place to hide.
