An intoxicated man allegedly beat up his girlfriend and hit her head with a Hawaiian sling at their residence in Kagman I on Sunday night.

The victim sustained a 4- to 5-centimeter-long laceration on the top of her head. Medics brought her to the Commonwealth Health Center’s emergency room.

Marcil Barao, 50, was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace. His bail was set yesterday at $20,000 cash. Preliminary hearing is on March 10.

Assistant public defender Matthew Meyer was appointed as counsel for Barao. Assistant attorney general Emily Cohen appeared for the government.

Police detective Nicholas A. Rabauliman stated in his report that Barao and his girlfriend had been drinking at their neighbor’s house in Kagman I on Sunday. Barao allegedly got mad when the victim said they needed to go home as he was already drunk.

Once they arrived home, Barao allegedly slapped and punched the victim in the face. He also allegedly hit her with the Hawaiian sling on the head, causing her to fall.

Barao then ran away when he learned the police had been called. Their neighbors then called the medics.

A police officer later found Barao sitting on the ground inside an abandoned house located in the bushy area behind their house. The officer arrested Barao, who had a swollen right cheek and scratches on it.
