A man is now facing multiple charges after he allegedly hit his girlfriend’s back with the blunt side of a machete.

Jesse Billy Mailuw Jr., 46, was arrested last Friday after the alleged assault that reportedly came about after he accusing her of cheating on him.

Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth Govendo later set Mailuw’s bail at $10,000. Mailuw is charged with disturbing the peace, assault, assault and battery, and assault with a dangerous weapon, Court records state that the victim and Mailuw were outside their house at night and talking about their relationship, while Muiluw was cleaning the area outside their home with a machete.

Mailuw then allegedly accused the victim of cheating and “told her that he did not like the way she acts, and if she continues to talk, he is going to beat her up.” The victim walked away and that’s when Mailuw allegedly struck her in the back with the blunt side of the machete.

The victim said she pretended to go back inside the house, but she sneaked out and contacted the police for assistance.

Court records state that the victim appeared frightened while talking to the officers and showing them the bruises on her body. The officers noted that there were multiple bruises on her left thigh down toward her shin. The ruises were observed to be dark color purple.

Medics came over to give the victim some medical attention but she refused to be transported to the hospital for further examination and medical care.

The victim told police that this was not the first time Mailuw assaulted her.  She said that Mailuw hit her on the thighs with a broom stick several times last April 29. The victim said that he hit her because she had left the house to buy betel nut but he got mad at her for leaving the house.

The victim said that she was in so much pain that she started to cry and observed the next day that “her left leg [was] swollen and [she] could barely walk.” She said she had not reported it to police because she was afraid that if Mailuw goes to jail and is released, “he will hurt her even more.”

Mailuw’s preliminary hearing is set for May 13 at 10am.
