Man allegedly drunk, falls asleep while driving

A man tried to outrun Department of Public Safety police officers after officers tried to wake him up after he fell asleep in his car in the middle of the road.
Multiple sources told Saipan Tribune that DPS officers booked a man last Saturday after he was found asleep in his car and holding up traffic in Garapan just across the Bank of Guam. Multiple videos also surfaced on social media confirming the incident.
Saipan Tribune tried to confirm this with DPS, but DPS had yet to issue an official statement as of press time.
According to a first-hand witness who requested anonymity, a red Toyota Corolla stopped in the middle of the road just a few feet past the intersection across Bank of Guam at around 4pm last Saturday.
Concerned individuals approached the car to try and help and when they looked into the car through the driver’s side window, they noticed that an unidentified man was asleep inside, allegedly holding a beer can.
At around 4:05pm, DPS officers passing by noticed the car holding up traffic and stopped to see what was going on. However, when police knocked on the man’s window, he would not wake up.
When officers stepped away for a second, the man had woken up and started to drive away slowly despite continuous commands from officers to stop.
Officers chased the man all the way to Liberty Department Store and cornered him there where he was arrested.
