Man allegedly breaks into house, touches girl’s legs
Probable cause has been found to file charges against a 21-year-old man who broke into a neighbor’s house in China Town and rubbed the thighs and buttocks of a 16-year-old girl.
At a preliminary hearing Tuesday, Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho found probable cause to believe that burglary, sexual assault in the second degree, and disturbing the peace were committed and that Kimo Einat William may have committed the offenses.
In a written order Wednesday, Camacho said he heard the testimony of the witness and found that assault and battery is merged into the sexual assault in the second degree.
He said there’s no probable cause for assault and battery and therefore this charge is dismissed.
William will be arraigned on Monday, Sept. 22.
Assistant attorney general Barbara Cepeda appeared for the government. Assistant public defender Michael Sato served as counsel for William.
Police detective Simon T. Manacop stated in his report that a burglary disturbance at a house in China Town was reported to the Department of Public Safety last Sunday at 4:14am, and that two police officers responded.
Manacop said the victim’s father told the responding officers that someone entered his daughter’s room and touched her legs while she was asleep.
When one officer met with the girl, she was crying and appeared nervous.
Preliminary investigation showed that the teenager was asleep in her bedroom when she felt someone rubbing her left thigh toward her buttocks.
When the girl opened her eyes, she saw a man sitting beside her and recognized him as William, who stays across the street from their house.
When the girl screamed, William covered her mouth with his hand. Her scream, however, woke her grandmother, who then opened the door to her room. William ran toward the balcony, jumped, and then ran toward the jungle beside the house.
The girl said that William had no shirt on and was wearing only a pair of dark short pants.
Later that morning, police officers went to William’s house and found him sleeping in an outside patio of the residence. Police arrested him.
During his interview with police, William reportedly admitted sneaking into the girl’s room and touching her legs as she was asleep.
Manacop said the suspect claimed he was only supposed to “spy on the girl.”
