A 32-year-old man allegedly beat up his wife inside their car on Saipan after an argument about $4 to pay for gas last Thursday.

Raymond Mafnas Palacios was arrested on charges of assault and battery and disturbing the peace.

A police officer who arrived at the home of the alleged victim at 5:22pm saw her crying.

A $5,000 cash bail was initially imposed on Palacios. Assistant public defender Cindy Nesbit was appointed as his counsel. Preliminary hearing will be on Oct. 3 at 1:30pm.

The alleged victim told police that she and Palacios were on their way to the Bank of Guam in Chalan Piao at 3:30pm when an argument erupted inside the vehicle.

In the course of the argument, Palacios allegedly hit her twice in the left ear and in the head. He also allegedly drove fast and made abrupt lane changes, while yelling profanities at her.

She told a relative about what happened. Police arrived at 5pm that day and arrested Palacios.
