Man accused of stabbing mother to go on trial
Jaron Ronald, a 24-year-old man facing five charges for allegedly stabbing and beating his mother at their home in Kagman III, is set to go on trial on May 11, 2015 at 9am.
Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho set the jury trial date yesterday at a status conference.
Camacho said a bench warrant will be issued for Ronald’s arrest if he fails to appear at the trial.
The judge ordered the parties to appear at a pretrial conference/motion hearing on April 8 at 9am.
Assistant attorney general Chester Hinds appeared for the government yesterday. Ronald appeared under the custody of the Department of Corrections and with his counsel, assistant public defender Matthew Meyer.
In the first amended information, the Office of the Attorney General charged Ronald with assault with a dangerous weapon, aggravated assault and battery, senior citizen physical abuse, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.
Ronald pleaded not guilty.
Arraignment will be on Feb. 2 at 9am.
Ronald claimed that his mother got injured after she fell from bed last Jan. 21 but police later alleged that he actually stabbed her with a sharp object and beat her up at their home.
Police said the victim sustained two lacerations on her right forehead and bruises on the right eye and cheek, right arm, and right hand. Her fingers were swollen and bruised, and her right leg was also bruised.
The police report and the first amended information did not indicate the victim’s age but described her as a man’amko [elderly].
