A 20-year-old man accused of having sex with his then 15-year-old girlfriend in Garapan last year pleaded guilty on Wednesday and was slapped with a four-month prison term.

Ashiqur Rahaman, also known as Simon Kosam, pleaded guilty to one count of assault and battery. He was sentenced to one-year in prison, all suspended except for four months. Rahaman was given credit for four months of time served.

The sentence shall be in addition to his sentence in a previous 2015 criminal conviction. In that case, he pleaded guilty to assault and battery.

This means Rahaman shall be released from the Department of Corrections on March 21, 2017.

As part of the plea deal, the government dropped the remaining count of assault and battery.

Rahaman was originally charged with two counts of sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree. The government later amended the charge to two counts of assault and battery.
Jennifer Dockter served as counsel for Rahaman.
