Man, 58, hits girlfriend’s face with stick in a fit of jealousy
A woman was injured in the face after her boyfriend allegedly hit her with a wooden cane out of jealousy during their drinking session in Chalan Kanoa on Wednesday night.
The victim sustained a 3-inch laceration just above the right eyebrow. Medics arrived and treated her, police said.
Joseph Pangelinan, 58, was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon, aggravated assault and battery, and disturbing the peace. His bail was set at $15,000 cash.
Police detective Alexander T. Sakisat stated in his report that a police officer responded on Wednesday, April 9, at 6:11pm, to an assault and battery incident at a parking lot of C.K. Phone Store in Chalan Kanoa.
As the officer and the medics were approaching the C.K. Phone Store, a man waved, directing them to MSV Building where they later saw the victim lying on the ground. The victim was screaming, her head resting in the arms of a man identified as a certain Perry, who was seated on the ground.
The officer saw bloodstains all over the pavement and on the victim’s jeans. The victim told police that Pangelinan hit her with a stick. The stick, measuring about five feet long and two inches in diameter, was left at the scene.
The victim told police that she was drinking at the U.S. Post Office in Chalan Kanoa with her boyfriend, Pangelinan, and their friend Perry.
She said they later moved to MSV Building where they continued drinking. As she was leaving to check her children behind the Bank of Guam in Chalan Piao, Pangelinan allegedly grabbed Perry’s wooden cane and used it to hit her face.
Sakisat said that during their interview at DOC on Thursday, Pangelinan disclosed that his girlfriend left their house to deliver lemons to a restaurant. When she failed to return home, Pangelinan said he looked for her and found her drinking with two men, including her former boyfriend, near the U.S. Post Office in CK. Pangelinan said he joined them in the soju drinking session.
When it started to get hot, they moved to a shady area. He said as she was about to leave he picked up a stick and hit her with it.
Pangelinan admitted he did it because he was still mad and jealous. He said he left the area because he was scared upon seeing her bleeding.
