A 55-year-old man arrested in September for allegedly sexually abusing a 6-year-old girl in Chalan Kanoa pleaded guilty yesterday as part of a plea deal.

Maintenance worker George Ramel Delos Santos pleaded guilty to sex abuse of a minor in the first degree. He will be sentenced on June 22, 2017 at 1:30pm.

The remaining charges of assault and battery and disturbing the peace were dropped.

Attorney Cong Nie is the court-appointed counsel for Delos Santos. Assistant attorney general Betsy Weintraub appeared for the government.

Delos Santos is accused of sexually abusing the girl on Aug. 28, 2016, on Saipan.

A police officer was dispatched to a public school last Aug. 29 for a reported sexual abuse case. According to the girl’s father, there have been several instances when they could not find their daughter around the house and when they asked where she went, she would say she was at Delos Santos’ room.

Last Aug. 28, the father again asked his daughter where was earlier. The girl said she was inside Delos Santos’ room, where he touched her privates. The father reported the matter to a school official the next day.

Superior Court Presiding Judge Robert C. Naraja granted Delos Santos’ request for a presentence investigation report.
