A 24-year-old man claimed that his mother got injured after she fell from bed but police later found that he actually allegedly stabbed her with a knife and beat her up at their residence in Kagman III early Wednesday morning.

Jaron Ronald was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon, senior citizen physical abuse and/or mental cruelty, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.

The victim sustained two lacerations on the right forehead and bruises on the right eye and cheek, right arm and right hand. Her fingers were swollen and bruised, and her right leg was also bruised, police said.

The police report did not mention the victim’s age.

At a hearing yesterday, Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo imposed a $10,000 cash bail and set the preliminary hearing for Jan. 28 at 9am.

Govendo appointed Chief Public Defender Douglas Hartig as counsel for Ronald.

Police detective Vincent A. Igisaiar stated in his report that the Department of Public Safety received a call about a stabbing incident at a residence along Banalu Street in Kagman III early Wednesday morning.

When a police officer arrived at the house, he met with Ronald, who stated that he arrived home at 12am and found his mother on the floor in the living room so he helped her get to bed.

The officer noticed that Ronald had dry bloodstain on his neck. When the officer asked about the bloodstain, Ronald claimed he got it from helping his mother.

While medics were attending to the victim, the officer saw that the victim’s injuries were not consistent with falling from a bed. The officer noticed a bloodied blanket on the bed and some dry blood on the victim’s face.

Medics told the officer that the victim’s injuries were not from falling but due to something else. Medics then brought the victim to the hospital.

The officer later found a witness who was inside a vehicle across the house. The witness told the officer he saw Ronald slap the victim in the face earlier that night.

The witness later told another police officer assisting the investigation that about 30 minutes later, he saw the victim on her bed in the living room with blood on her face and chest.

The witness saw Ronald went into the restroom so he followed him. The witness saw the broken handle of a kitchen knife with blood on it on the floor in front of the restroom. The witness got scared so he ran outside and called for police assistance.

Police arrested Ronald at 1:40am.

Ronald allegedly threatened that when he gets out of jail, he would hurt the officer who arrested him and the person who called the police.

Police further learned that prior to the incident, Ronald had gone to the beach to drink with friends.

At 7:30pm to 8pm, the witness saw Ronald arrive at the victim’s house. The witness heard the victim tell Ronald she needed to go to the restroom. Ronald then scolded his mother for urinating on the bed and on the floor.

The witness then saw Ronald slap the victim, who was sitting on a chair.

When the witness saw the victim bleeding from her head, he ran to a friend’s house where he called the police. The witness also ran to the Kagman Fire Station to get more help.

When the witness arrived with the fire engine and ambulance personnel, Ronald threatened the witness and told them to leave the house. He then allegedly used a white blanket to cover the victim and hide what he did to her.

The witness said Ronald arrived on Saipan three to four months ago and that it was not his first time to hurt his mother. The report did not specify where the suspect came from before arriving on island.

Three detectives tried to talk to the victim but she refused to say anything and appeared frightened.

A doctor at the Commonwealth Health Center told the officer that the victim’s injuries were caused by a knife or sharp object.
