Mamiko leads winners in TRAC event

Mamiko Berger registered the fastest time in the longest race in last Saturday’s Saipan Aquathlon and 5K/10K Pathway Run.

Berger, who is prepping up for next week’s Saipan Marathon, completed the 10K run from Kilili Beach to Bank of Guam and back in 40:43 to take the overall championship and rule the women’s field. She defeated Ayano Braxton, who clocked in at 54:42, and the Top 3 finishers in the men’s open field.

Charlie Sendin was the first placer in the men’s open after submitting 43:11 and downing Zhao Chenxi (43:54) and Robin Sapong (49:20).

In the age group competitions, Rui Shiyan topped the boys U19 after logging 1:00:00. Joshua Castro (1:01:57), Mark Isip (49:40) and Edmund Basa (50:20) won in the 30 to 39, 40 to 49, and over 50 divisions, respectively, while Tiffany Lin prevailed in the 30 to 39 age group.

In the 5K race, which also started at Kilili Beach with a turnaround point at Quartermaster Road, Chen Haoyu was the fastest at 20:30 to take the open division crown in the men’s field, while Bel Tan reigned in the women’s division with her 31:49.

David Sai clocked in at 25:13 to gain top honors in the men’s U19 division, while other first place finishers in their respective age groups were 30 to 39’s Nap Dizon (23:47), 40 to 49’s Gary Bandoja (22:50), and over 50’s Ariel Lansangan (24:40). In the women’s field, Jinie Thompson ruled the U19 division after registering 33:50, while Vernice Ronda won in the 30 to 39 age group after checking in at 44:46.

In the aquathlon, Wang Enfeng and Angel Marie Tan were the top finishers. Wang completed the 1K swim and 3K run (from Kilili Beach to Beach Road across the Mayor’s Office) in 37:02 to beat Christian Villacrusis (40:16) and Adrian Libayan (44:16). Angel, on the other hand, recorded 48:24 to finish ahead of Atsuko Sato (53:11) and Jinju Thompson (54:05).
