The Make-a-Wish Foundation invited families as well as other members of the public for their annual fundraiser at the Hyatt Regency Saipan SandCastle last Thursday.
The event, with the wardrobe theme “Black Ties and Zories” provided delicious food and beverages as well as a theatre performance of The Lion King Jr. from Mount Carmel School.
Eleanor Cabrera, Make-a-Wish board member for the CNMI, said, “This event was created four years ago when we wanted to have a big event called CNMI Wish Night in an effort to raise awareness and funds to help grant wishes in the CNMI. I would like to thank our very generous donors and sponsors as well as Sand Castle for allowing us to use their site for helping make our event a success.”
According to Cabrera, the chapter has been in existence for over 25 years.
Aaron Paul Roque, of Bridge Capital LLC, said, “I was touched by their presentations and I’m happy to be a part of their mission to raise money for sick children. The overall party was very smooth; you can tell it was well planned. I had a lot of fun and the food, especially, was really good. The ticket was definitely worth it.”
Kanae Quinn, board member and treasurer for Make-a-Wish, said, “This is our fourth annual event, and this is the first time holding it in SandCastle. In the last few years, we’ve had it in smaller venues but this year we had to expand due to such a great turnout. For this event, we would like to honor our Wish kids as well so we invited three Wish families to come over and join us tonight.”
Wish kids are children who have benefited from the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants the wishes of sickly children to enrich the human experience.
Quinn explained how all proceeds would be going back to the islands to support the wishes of children. The wishes, usually averaging at about $10,000, usually involves transporting the child along with their families abroad in order to do a specific task or participate in an event.
