Smoke Pub Magic 8-Ball seized the overall lead to signify its intention of battling for the crown in the weekly 2014 Budweiser Open 8-Ball Thursday League held last Thursday in various bars on the island.

Smoke Pub, which was in fourth place a few weeks ago, racked up 13 wins to improve to 21-9 to relegate early leader Poseidon Titans to second place (20-10).

National Alamo Car Rental, which was fifth last week, climbed to third at 17-13 while Route 33 Armatech Hustler and Joker Homeboyz are tied from fourth to fifth with 15-15 records making the race to the title tighter.

Wild Bill’s Wild Wild West (14-16), Barcode Breakers (11-19) and Jonny’s Team SCS (7-3) are the other competing teams.

Jokers Str8 Shooters, in the Tuesday league, is joined by sister team IT&E Voyagers, and Jonnys Crazy 8 on top of the six-team field with 19-11 marks.

Smoke Pub Sang&D’Gang and Saipan TV Hustler are tied from fourth to fifth spots with 13-17 cards, while Smoke Pub Lanchun Girls is at the bottom of the standings at 7-23.

Tuesday League games on Sept. 2 will have the Voyagers, Lanchun Girls, and Hustler hosting the Crazy 8, Shooters, and Sang&D’Gang, respectively, in the home-and-away format. (Jon Perez)
