The first local clothing brand opened shop last Friday at the T Galleria, making it the first ever local ready-to-wear brand to set up shop inside the Duty Free Shopping chain.

Local clothing brand Mågås opened Friday at T Galleria, enticing customers with a chance to win hats called snapbacks and lots of other freebies such as stickers for every purchase, and a lanyard and a drawstring bag for every $50 and $100 purchase.

Mågås is a Chamorro word that has a lot of meanings, including boss, chief, leader, great, exulted, superior, and supreme.

“I am really honored and humbled for the opportunity to collaborate with another outstanding business that delivers on products in the CNMI,” said Mågås founder Frank Cabrera

Cabrera told Saipan Tribune that he is proud to be a part of T Galleria and mentioned that Mågås products sold at the mall are exclusive to it.

Mågås could be purchased at the main store, 670 Rocksteady Shop, and features a variety of local designs and are all printed on Saipan. The Mågås brand boasts an experienced design team coupled with quality material from the U.S. and creates authentic high quality products such as shirts, tanktops, long sleeves, hoodies, Ppolo shirts, board shorts, snapbacks, accessories, and leggings.

Cabrera describes the Mågås-T Galleria partnership as a “blessing” since T Galleria is frequented by tourists, giving visitors a peek into the CNMI culture.

“It really opens up our market. We get to showcase our wonderful items to whoever comes to our islands,” said Cabrera.

DFS Saipan general manager Milan Rabold told Saipan Tribune that the brand offers a “more local experience,” one that shows tourists a “truly unique side of Saipan.”

Rabold said Mågås is merely the start of a series of other local brands, but declined to specify which brands DFS is targeting.

“We’ll announce it when we’re ready, but it shouldn’t be too long,” said Rabold, further confirming that there would be more local brands opening shop along the year.
