Macario survives foe to enter finals
Community Badminton Club’s Ezekiel Macario endured a three-game semis duel against Saipan Badminton Club’s Kelvin Young Son to march into the finals of the men’s singles B division of the 2014 IT&E Mixed Doubles and Singles Badminton Tournament last Sunday at the TSL Sports Complex.
Macario drew first blood in the second Final Four pairing, 21-14, but failed to close out the match early, as Son came out swinging in the second game with a 21-17 victory. In the deciding third game, Macario regained his form to foil Son’s upset bid. Macario advanced to the semis after topping Group 2, while Son placed second in Group 1.
Deether Edralin was the first finisher in Group 1 and lived up to his lofty billing after sweeping Group 2 second placer Joel Ortega in the first semis game last Sunday, 21-17, 21-18. Edralin will battle Macario in the winner-take-all finale this Saturday.

The Community Badminton Club youth player will be tested against the veteran and three-time champion Choi, who cruised past Havikka Farro in the other semis pairing, 21-7, 21-7.
In the women’s C singles, it will be Malasarte versus Caracut. Malasarte defeated Patricia Abantao in straight games, 21-11, 21-9, and Caracut also took the short route in eliminating Roxe Lazaro, 21-13, 21-18.
Malasarte was aiming for her second finals appearance, but was frustrated by Windy Fernandez, who pulled off a 21-17, 14-21, 21-17 triumph over the former in the second semis game in the women’s B singles last Sunday. In the first semis match in the division, Obata earned a return trip to the finals after ousting Loyda Ito, 21-12, 21-15.

The first semis match also ended after only two games with Arago besting Macario, 21-16, 21-15.
