M-League games cancelled due to typhoon

Yesterday’s matches in the M-League at the Oleai Sports Complex Field were called off due to typhoon Vongfong.

Five games were originally set for Week 3 of the fall season of the CNMI’s premier football league. In the first match, Wild Bill’s was slated to meet MP United Football Club, while Inter Godfather’s and Korean Football Association on Saipan’s duel was scheduled in the second match. Other games cancelled yesterday were Tan Holding FC vs Paire FC, Shirley’s FC vs Sun Palace, and Thundercats vs Matansa FC. The game between World Resort and the CNMI Women’s National Team completes the Week 3 schedule, but the match won’t be played until Oct. 8.

With last Sunday’s games shelved and five other tiffs in the first two weeks rescheduled, only six matches had been played this season.

In Week 2 matches last Sept. 28, only three games took place with Matansa FC, Tan Holdings FC, and Inter Godfather’s defeating their respective foes.

Inter Godfather’s down MP United in their Division 1 game, 2-0. Bruce Berline and Nigel Leahy scored for Inter Godfather’s , which only debuted in Week 2, as its opening match against Paire FC last Sept. 21 was reset.

In another Division 1 collision, Tan Holdings FC topped KFAS, 3-1. Sean Perez, Yoshi Mafnas, and Daniel Agulto delivered for Tan Holdings, while only Ji Sung Cha made it to the board for KFAS. Perez and Mafnas scored in the fifth and seventh minute to give Tan Holdings FC an early 2-0 lead, which went down to one after Cha hit his target in the 15th minute. Agulto brought the advantage back to two goals with his shot in the 57th minute and Tan Holdings went on to gain its first win. Tan Holdings’ Week 1 match against Wild Bill’s was also called off.

In Division 2, Matansa blanked Kanoa FC, 3-0, to remain unbeaten in the field and take the division lead. Matansa prevailed in its opening match against the CNMI Women’s National Team, 9-0.

Against Kanoa, Matansa drew two goals from Ahmed Titu, while the other goal came from Young Haw Whang. Versus the CNMI Women’s National Team, Hamrul Kamrul led Matansa, as he nailed give goals. Titu chipped in two, while Tej Gurung and Aji Mandupala contributed one each.

Still in Division 2 results, the Thundecats edged Kanoa FC, 1-0, in one of the only two matches played in Week 1. Hobin Lee scored the lone goal in the game in the 32nd minute.
