The long break from a regular competition did not prevent four teams from having a rousing start in the NMIFA Summer Youth League 2021 last Saturday at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.

In the boys U15 division of the league, which was Northern Mariana Islands Football Association’s first for youth teams since the COVID-19 pandemic halted action on the pitch in March last year, TanHoldings Football Club and Kanoa FC were on fire on route to whipping their respective opponents.

Kanoa crushed Paire FC, 11-2. Markus Toves, Tyler Omelau, Isaiah Jolo, and Paul Lizama scored two goals each in the lopsided win. Vicente Reyes, Ruben Guerrero, and Leland Deleon Guerrero added two goals apiece. O-Jay and Rodney Tomei delivered the pair of goals for Paire.

Toves opened things up for Kanoa with his back-to-back goals in the first half that ended with the team taking a 4-1 lead. Jolo and Omelau registered the two other goals for Kanoa in the opening half and the team pulled away in the second for a big win in the kick-off of the first summer league.

In the other boys U15 match, TanHoldings eased past Matansa FC, 7-2.

Anthony John Bargancia and Mark Patubo teamed up in lifting TanHoldings to its debut win, as they tallied three goals apiece. Anthony Austria contributed one goal, while Matansa drew its twin goals from Philip Megino and Isaiah Hossain.

Megan Elayda, Rosie Saralu, and Pia Ngewakl were too much to handle for Kanoa-1 as the trio scored at will in the season opener.

Elayda set up the one-sided match with her hat-trick delivered in the first 12 minutes of play to finish with five goals. Saraly and Ngewakl added four each to complete the demolition, while Kanoa-1’s lone goal came from Sophia Quintos.

TanHoldings 16, Paire 0
TanHoldings also played no letup in its first game of the season.

Audrey Castro led TanHoldings’ rout of Paire after making four goal, while eight other players of the winning team also hit the board.

Meanwhile, the NMIFA Summer Youth League 2021 also featured games in the co-ed U12 division and results of last weekend’s matches will be reported in Saipan Tribune’s Friday issue.
