Eloise Rose Lopez, who worked under the Division of Environmental Quality Laboratory at the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality, was recently awarded the Sherry Reed Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship in Marine Conservation.

Lopez, who participated in the Division of Coastal Resources Management Summer Internship, collected and analyzed marine and drinking waters here in the CNMI.

The news about the scholarship award, which was posted on the Facebook page of the Women Divers Hall of Fame, did not indicate the dollar amount of the scholarship, aside from saying that the Sherry Reed Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship in Marine Conservation is sponsored by family and friends of Women Divers Hall of Fame member Sherry Reed.

Lopez is currently doing a yearlong internship with the Bureau of Environmental Coastal Quality as a shoreline monitor intern, where she studies the states of how the CNMI’s shorelines are in order to better inform coastal planning to determine if CNMI shores are decreasing or increasing from the way they are now.
