Trench Warz Promotions is heeding the call of mixed martial arts fight fans on the island via Ring of Fire slated for the end of the year.
Trench Warz Promotions president Justis “Cuki” Alvarez said bringing back local MMA fights has been on the back of his mind since last year.
“We’ve been definitely thinking about bringing MMA back, no doubt. What I can say for sure is that we will have something before the end of the year. I don’t want to let too much information out just yet, as we are still in talks with sponsors and venue locations, but what I can tell you is that, we have been planning this since right after the COVID-19 pandemic was totally eased up last year September,” he told Saipan Tribune.
Alvarez did say they will again be working with Pacific Trading Co. to bring back MMA action in the CNMI.
“We will be hosting some fight night Friday’s in the near future and that will be focusing mainly on stand-up fights such as amateur boxing and kickboxing. We will also be having some grappling Brazilian Jiu Jitsu superfights as well,” he told Saipan Tribune.
Alvarez said Ring of Fire will be fought inside a squared boxing ring.
“Trench Tech has actually purchased a 16 x 16-foot ring since 2021, but because of the whole issue with COVID-19 we couldn’t do anything as far as having actual bouts. The whole social distancing and gathering of big crowds just didn’t allow us to.”
He added that Trench Warz Promotions is sending out an invitation to all mixed martial arts gyms in the CNMI to prepare and train their fighters for Ring of Fire.
“We are looking for all competitors, young and old, male and female. I will be slowly building up and advertising the event as the moment grows near, but we are hoping to have something in November or December to end the year with a bang!”
