Local filmmaker to debut film at festival circuit

Saipan-born and raised filmmaker Tonny Yang, who wrote and directed the short film A Quarter of Silence, will be premiering his film at the Silver State Film Festival, the San Francisco short film festival, the Mentone Film Festival, and streaming on the Shorts Roku Channel.

A Quarter of Silence revolves around two young parents who lose their drive for affection and goes through one night of silence that reignites their proclivity for love.

Yang 23, who is the son of Ke Yang and Jessica Liu, graduated from Marianas High School and went on to complete the Bachelor of Cinema program at the San Francisco State University. He has always had an interest in storytelling through film while growing up on the islands.

Yang has directed and participated in films such as Fake It, In Men We Trust, Flutter and many more.

A Quarter of Silence will be premiering at the Century Theater of the New Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Oct. 29, at 9:30pm as part of the Silver State Film Festival. It will also be shown at the Maya Cinema Theater in Pittsburg, California, on Oct. 28 at 6pm as part of the San Francisco Short Film Festival and at on Nov. 11 at the Mentone Film Festival. (PR)
