Lizama stands out in Big League

The Braves’ Franklin Lizama leads three categories in the ongoing Big League competition in the 2016 Saipan Little League Baseball.

The Braves slugger is on top of the batting race with his .572 average after going 8-for-14. He is ahead of three Islanders bets and another Braves player in the Top 5. The Islanders’ Henry Lizama went 6-for-12 for the second best .500 batting average, while teammate Jerald Cabrera is ranked third with his 6-for-13 and .462 average. The Braves Barry Sunumai and Islanders’ Jhace Palacios rounded out the Top 5 after registering averages of .455 (5-for-11) and .417 (5-for-12), respectively.

Three Braves players are in the No. 6 to No. 8 spot with J.J. Lifoifoi posting .357 (5-for-14), Ian Norita tallying .333 (4-for-12), and Darion Jones logging .308 (4-for-13). The Islanders’ Craig Aguon (.300/3-for-10) and the Braves’ A.J. Evangelista (.286/4-for-14) complete the field. The Top 10 batters were based on 10 or more at bats.

Besides enjoying the lead in the batting race, Franklin Lizama is also the pacesetter in the runs and doubles categories with his six and three, respectively. He leads Lifoifoi (5), Palacios (4), and Henry Lizama (4) in the runs.

In triples, Jones has two and four players are tied with one apiece, while Palacios is the only player to make a homerun so far.

In the pitching race, the Islanders’ Nate Camacho pitched nine innings and gave up no runs for a 0.00 ERA to lead Jones, who allowed only one run in 12 innings pitch for a 0.58 ERA.

Camacho also has the most strikeouts so far with 13, followed by Palacios and Yankees’ Peyton Lizama, who have 9 and 8, respectively.
