Members of the Ye Olde Saipanne Golfe Clubbe braved windy conditions at the Kingfisher Golf Links last Saturday to vie for the 2019 Champion Golfer of the Year honors.
The competition was very tight indeed, with the Top 5 players finishing within three strokes of each other. For the first time in the six-year history of the tournament, two golfers, “Juj” Juan Lizama and “Double” Dan Harding, tied for first place with identical net scores of 74. After a quick meeting of the rules committee, it was decided that the two aging aces would, in the spirit of amity and brotherhood upon which the club was founded, share the title of Ye Olde Saipanne Golfe Clubbe Champion Golfer of the Year. The two champions shook hands, split the prize money and the post-tournament banquet commenced.
Alone in third place with a net score of 75 was the 2017 champion Wil “Paki” Maui. Rounding out the Top 5 were Timothy “Tex” Brasuell with a net score of 76 and Ron “Coozy” Wright, with a net score of 77. (PR)
