First cousins Henry, Kiku, and Joe Lizama are three of the main reasons the GSM Cubs are on top of the standings in the U25 division of the Saipan Baseball League as the trio currently leads the individual categories in batting and pitching.

Henry Lizama of the Cubs found himself as the batting leader based on 13 or more times at bat. He posted a .500 average followed closely by the .464 of Kiku Lizama, while the Falcons’ Barry Sunumai is at third with .438. Franco Nakamura of the Pirates (.421) and A.J. Lizama (.414), also of the A.J. Palacios-managed Cubs, complete the Top 5 in the batting leaders.

Frankie Lieto of the Falcons and the Cubs’ Verlance Secharmidal are tied for sixth to seventh places (.385), while Peyton Lizama is in eighth place (.333), and Falcons teammates Ian Norita (.308) and A.J. Evangelista (.231) are ninth and 10th, respectively.

Players in the U25 still have yet to hit a home run, but Kiku Lizama is ahead in the individual categories of runs scored, doubles, and RBIs with 10, three, and six, while joining Sunumai, Norita, and Jhace Palacios are on top of the triples department with one each.

Kiku Lizama also hit three doubles, while Nathan Camacho had two, and 10 players are tied with one each. Kiku has the most RBIs so far with six, while Nakamura and Peyton Lizama have earned five each. A.J. Lizama and Norita are tied with four.

Joe Lizama is ahead both in pitching and strikeouts posting a .043 ERA and retiring 22 batters for the Cubs. Nakamura is the second best pitcher with a .069 ERA, while A.J. Lizama also has his share of duties on the mound with .085, followed by Lieto (1.13) Ben Lizama of the Blue Jays (1.84), and Joe Palacios of the Cubs (2.33). Cubs’ players Keoni Lizama (2.50) and Ethan Babauta (2.63), Lorenzo Sebaklim of the Pirates (3.08), and Jhace Palacios (3.50) complete the Top 10 pitching leaders.

Keoni Kaipat is second in the most strikeouts department with 17, while Lieto has 15 followed by the 12 each of Sebaklim and Nakamura.

The statistical leaders are expected to change once the games resume this Tuesday and after Team CNMI returns from competing in the Micronesian Baseball Classic in Guam.
